About Best Free Tools

Best Free Tools is a free collection of online tools built for people who just want to get something done: format a piece of JSON, count the words in an essay, generate a QR code, check a domain's DNS records, or work out a tip — without creating an account, installing software, or paying for what should be simple.

There are currently 21 tools on the site, grouped into categories covering SEO, domains and DNS, developer utilities, text and writing, design helpers, calculators and unit converters. Each tool page includes a plain-language guide explaining what the tool does, how to use it, and the details people commonly ask about, so the page is useful even if you never click a button.

Private by default

The defining idea behind Best Free Tools is that your work stays yours. Every tool runs entirely in your web browser: the text you paste, the dates you enter and the colours you pick are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers. There are no accounts, no uploads, and no usage limits. You can close the tab and nothing about your task remains anywhere.

Free, supported by advertising

Running the site costs money, so we display advertising through Google AdSense. Advertising keeps every tool free for everyone. Ads never change how a tool works, and we never sell or share your data — there is no data of yours to share, because the tools never receive it in the first place.

How the tools are built

Each tool is built and tested by hand, uses standard, well-documented methods (for example, Naegele's rule for due dates, WCAG contrast formulas for accessibility checks, and standard hash algorithms for checksums), and states honestly where an answer is an estimate. Where a result depends on a third party — such as live DNS records — the page says so.
